Inaugural Speech of the President of the 22th Meeting of States Parties by Ambassador ICHIKAWA Tomiko, Permanent Representative of Japan to the Conference on Disarmament at the 5th Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention

  On the 29th of November 2024, on the last day of the 5th Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, Japan took over the Presidency of the 22nd Meeting of States Parties (22MSP) from Cambodia. Ambassador ICHIKAWA Tomiko, Permanent Representative of Japan to the Conference on Disarmament, delivered her  inaugural speech  as the President of the 22nd MSP.

 In her speech, Ambassador ICHIKAWA announced the following 4 key areas as priority themes during the Japan’s Presidency:
1) Strengthening national ownership and capacity building assistance;
2) The application of advanced and emerging technologies in mine action;
3) The strengthening of synergies between the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and mine action; and
4) Universalization. Ambassador also expressed Japan’s commitment to the further implementation of the APMBC and the Siem Reap-Angkor Action Plan.
