NPDI Side Event on Transparency, Accountability and Strengthening the NPT Revue Process (UN First Committee)

On 29th July, Ambassador ICHIKAWA moderated the side event organized by the NPDI at the margin of the 79th First Committee of United Nations General Assembly : “Transparency, accountability and strengthening the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review process: why they matter”. The event was attended by Ambassador Harold Agyeman, Chair of the 2025 NPT Preparatory Committee, and around 40 participants from different UN Member States.
The eminent panelists - Ambassador Robert in den Bosch, Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the Conference on Disarmament, Ambassador Adam Scheinman, Special Representative of the President for Nuclear Nonproliferation, United States, Mr. Chris King, Chief, Weapons of Mass Destruction Branch, UNODA, and Ms. Kristiana Nitisa, Researcher, Open Nuclear Network - discussed with a sense of urgency what measures and steps should be taken in the current NPT Review Process and beyond.
