The aim of the "Nuclear Weapon Free Zones" (NWFZ), through international instruments are: (1) to ban the production, acquisition, possession and deployment of nuclear weapons in specific regions, (2) to ban nuclear weapon states (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States) from using or threatening to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear-weapon states in those regions, and (3) to prevent other activities, such as nuclear tests.
