Nagasaki Peace Messenger's Statement to the CD Plenary

Twenty Youth Communicators for a World without Nuclear Weapons visited Geneva in August 2014. The “Youth Communicator for a World without Nuclear Weapons” program was established on July 29 2013 in Hiroshima. They are expected to introduce the realities of nuclear devastation to the world, with aspiration to realize a world without nuclear weapons through various international occasions, including international conferences and other events. Ms. KOYANAGI spoke to the CD on behalf of the Delegation of Japan. In the statement, she provided a statement about being a 3rd generation atomic bomb survivor who told the story of her grandmother's peril. She then urged the CD to bring about a world free of nuclear weapons.

WAW! 2015 Japanse Recital Side-Event during Shine Weeks

August 31st 2015, Ambassador's Residence


The Japanese Delegation to the CD (Geneva) invited Ms. Kimiko Nakazawa, a Japanese female violinist, to hold a recital as a side-event for WAW! 2015. Mrs. Sano made an opening remark explaining the work of WAW! 2015 to promote women’s participation in society by the Japanese government. Forty participants, including various delegations and UN officials, participated in this concert, which was followed by a reception.

UN Fellowship Progam Reception

In 1978, the United Nations General Assembly launched the Program of Fellowships on Disarmament. The aim is to train them to participate more effectively in international disarmament deliberations and negotiations. In August of each year, the Fellows arrive to Geneva for the first segment which begins at UNOG. H.E.Mr. Toshio SANO invited the UN Fellowship Participants to his residence for an exchange of views over dinner and to also introduce the schedule of their visit to Japan. In September, the second segment begins and comprises of visits to international organizations related to disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation. They also visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. In the third segment they travel to NYC to participate in the First Committee of the General Assembly. Courtesty Call by Nagasaki Junior High School Students

A delegation of Nagasaki junior high school students arrived to Geneva to meet with H.E. Toshio SANO at the Delegation of Japan to the Conference on Disarmament. Afterwards, they were invited to the residence for dinner and had an opportunity to converse with Japanese delegates. They also made a courtesy call on Mr. Fung, Senior Political Affairs Officer at the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs and visited the ICRC. For many, this was their first time to Europe.

The 2014 Autumn Imperial Decorations

12 December 2014

On the 3rd of November 2014, Ms. Sylvianne Gherardi, a former French local employee of the Delegation of Japan to the CD, was conferred the 2014 Autumn Imperial Decorations by the Government of Japan in recognition of her contribution to the activities of the Japanese overseas establishment. The title of her decoration is "The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays" The celebration ceremony was hold in Geneva.

Delivery of the Joint Parliamentary Statements on the occasion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons

On the occasion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, H.E.
