Overview |
In the United Nations the issues of disarmament and non-proliferation are dealt with in the subsidiary organ to the General Assembly of the "First Committee" and the "United Nations Disarmament Commission". The UN Disarmament Commission is a deliberative body mandated to consider and make recommendations on various disarmament issues. |
Background |
The predecessor to the current UN Disarmament Commission was established in 1952 as a disarmament negotiating body. However, after a long time in a dormant state, the UNDC was reorganized by the First Special Session of General Assembly devoted to Disarmament and restarted as a subsidiary organ to the UN General Assembly to deliberate on disarmament. |
